The St. George Leagues Table Tennis Club Report

The A Grade players of the St. George table tennis club won the summer and winter competitions of 2011 the St George and Sutherland Shire.

The A grade team of the St. George Leagues club are Gary Braker, Walter Lay, Michael Antoun, Charlie Xu appearing in the photo with the secretary Ibrahim Bazzi.

Our three A grade players who competed in the Australian Veterans Championship representing NSW and St. George are Gary Braker, Walter Ly and Michael Antoun. This competition was held in Adelaide from 14th October to 23rd 2011 and our players sponsored by the St George Club’s Sport Council Committee. The players played extremely well. In the over 50 year old competition Michael Antoun achieved a gold medal. Gary Braker and Walter Ly were both awarded the bronze medal. Congratulations goes to these players for this outstanding result.

In the second photo the St. George table tennis club celebrating the Christmas and New Year, plus the winning in Adelaide and the St. George and Sutherland competitions.

We also congratulate Gary Braker who ranked no. 6 in the over 40 year old championship.

St George Leagues Table Tennis Report - 23 May2011

I would like to report that the St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis’ A Grade Team won the recent competition. On behalf of the Sports Council Committee and its President Mr James Farmer, the Secretary Ibrahim Bazzi thanked the winners for their outstanding effort and achievement. The A Grade players include; Gary Braker, Walter, James Fang, Michael Antoun, Charlie Shen, Charlie Xu John Wu and Ibrahim Bazzi.

Congratulations also to the A2 team, who achieved second place in this competition – an outstanding result. The A2 team includes; Kevin Law, Andew Law, Henry Ng and John Nawar.

Finally, congratulations to Gary Braker who was runner up at this year’s annual Korean Championships held in April. Gary played very well against some of the world’s best players. He represented the Korea National Team who were also filmed on national television. Some of the players came from Korea as well as Australia to participate in this special event.

In the photograph shown, the St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis’ A Grade Team came together to celebrate this win at the St George Leagues Club.

 

As you know the A Grade Team practices every Monday night at the club. We also compete on Tuesdays at the Hurstville Aquatic Centre.

The St. George Leagues Table Tennis Club Report. 21 September 2010.

The A team of the St. George Leagues Club was un able to win the St. George and Sutherland’s Shire Winter competition due to one of our best player Gary Braker, traveled to China.

But our B team took over and won the Competition,

As usual we congratulate and thanked the players on behave of the sport council committee and the president, Mr. Jim Farmer.

The main players were, Kevin Law, Henry Ng, And John Nawar.

With the Summer competitions, just started we have three teams A,B, and C. We confident they will do their best to represent the spirit of the St George.

We also congratulate Michael Antoun as he selected to represent NSW in the 050 Men’s team at the Australian veterans Open Table Tennis Championship being held at Melbourne Victoria.

The Players of the A grade teams practice every Monday night and compete on Tuesday at the Hurstville Aquatic Centre.

We would also like to congratulate the St George and Sutherland Shire A-grade players for winning the 2009 Winter Competitions. They are, as shown in the photo (from left to right): Gary Braker, Ibrahim Bazzi (Secretary), Peter Liu and Charlie Xu. The two players which are not pictured are Michael Antoun and Charlie Shen.

Two important table tennis competitions were held in our own backyard at the Hurstville Aquatic Sports Centre. The Table
Tennis World Masters Games was held 10th-17th October and the Australian Veterans championship from 17th – 24th October.

Several hundred players from around Australia and all over the world came to stay and compete. A number of St George players also competed although some unfortunately could not due to work commitments.
The St. George Players achieved reasonable results:

  • Michael Antoun came 7th from 15 in his group;
  • Arno Keonig came 4th from 11 in his group;
  • Gary Braker was runner up in his group; and
  • Sam Wong competed hard in his group

The well known Australian champion Matthew Walker made a visit to have a friendly game with the St. George Champion Gary Braker. We also welcomed a visit from 2 table tennis legends – our 2 ex-Quinlan Shield players; Tom Boyd and Kenneth Cole.
