Softball

In the 2006/07 season both teams faced an up hill battle. With the absence of a C2 grade one team had to play up a level in C1′s, and the C3 team had a large number of new players. Though neither team were able to claim victory in a grand final it is safe to say that everyone had a great time, especially given the number of players returning in 2007/08.

The 2007/08 season will begin in early September and the spirit of the St George Leagues Softball team lives on with two teams again taking the field this season. With the absence, again, of a C2 grade with the Sutherland Shire Softball Association, both teams will be playing in the C3 grade. This will make for some tough, but hopefully friendly, competition. With the number of players that are returning after a season or two off, and the return of a great number of last years’ players, it will no doubt be a great season for the St. George Leagues Softball / Baseball Association.

We hope to see you down at the Captain Cook Softball Fields.

Baseball Team Minor Premiers

St George Leagues Baseball Club fielded two teams in the Summer Cronulla- Sutherland competition.

Sixth grade were minor premiers.

Both sixth and third grade made the Grand Finals only to be knocked out in both games that went right to the final inning.

Winter Season will see the Baseball club field three teams – fifth, sixth and eighth grade – in the St George Baseball Association competition.

Softball season went well with three teams making the semi finals.

The C3 were minor premiers and made the grand final only to play below their usual standard.

The other two teams, having played in a combined D1 and D2 grade competition, were split into two separate grades at the end of the season with D1s making the semis only to fall short in the major semi final after an unfortunate incident.

The D2s just slipped into the finals and showed what they could do during the semis.

Having easily dispatched the third and second teams, the grand final was slightly more difficult.

D2s scored three runs in the final inning to win the premiership.

It is good to see our club growing but there is room for new players in the current Winter season.

Baseball

St George Baseball club has just completed the Summer Season without great success, but how do you measure success anyway?

The St,George leagues Club ‘Baseball Club’Certainly playing a hard game of baseball on a hot summer’s day, in the mighty St George colours, and then enjoying a cold drink with teammates must rate as just that.

Our softballers, all women at this stage, have blitzed their competition and are serious contenders to take out both the Cronulla D1 and 2 Grade Women’s Softball Premierships.

Winter baseball, a mixed competition in various grades, starts on 3 and 4 April.

Sign-on days will be on Sunday, 21 and 28 March.
